Massive Mix

Energy 92.7 has a mixshow on starting at 11pm on Friday nights called the "Massive Mix." This is hosted by Matt The Brat and DJ Nikita, plus other DJs from around the bay area. From what I have heard so far, it's pretty good. There are some current new songs, underground tracks, and then a few older tracks thrown in. So far so good. When I tuned in earlier, they were playing a remix of a Nine Inch Nails track. It was the song "Closer." Not a cover. An actual dance mix. It was decent. It's kinda nice hearing some remixes of some tracks that have been big on other formats.

Some really good tracks Energy could add in that vein would be Maroon 5's "This Love [Junior Vasquez Mix" and The Killers' "Somebody Told Me [Josh Harris Remix]." Those two tracks have been huge in both their remixed forms and original mixes.

So a definite schedule of DJs and shows has been determined for Energy 92.7. Check it out at their website www.energy927fm.com.

The mixshow timings are not listed on their site yet, but here they are.

New Songs & More!

This week, a couple new songs have been added to Energy 92.7's library. Okay, three songs to be exact. David Morales Featuring Lea Lorien's "How Would U Feel" was added last week. And Jonathan Peters Featuring Sylver's "All This Time" and DJ Tiesto's "Coming Home" were added yesterday (the 25th of January). The first two have been fairly successful on other dance stations throughout the U.S. and have already had their basic run. Better late than never. And the new DJ Tiesto track comes off of his latest project Parade Of The Athletes. For those who didn't know, Tiesto spun at the opening ceremonies for the Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece in 2004. This CD is a collection of his songs inspired by that. It would have been nice if he had released an edited down version of his Olympics mix. From what I could hear in the background during the opening ceremonies, he was pretty good.

It's unfortunate that DJ Tiesto's "Traffic [DJ Montana Edit]" hasn't been getting that many plays. It was an excellent instrumental track. It was added a short while back and began to increase in plays, then it has just dropped down in play. Maybe it will surge up again later on the way Despina Vandi's "Gia" did. It dropped into the top 50 and then made it back into the top 30 last week. Rupee's "Tempted To Touch [Remix]" and Lasgo's "Surrender" have been at the top of the playlist vying for the number one spot. Soon, a new song will probably take the top spot.

Energy 92.7 has finally unveiled their official website. It will be an interim space until the final version is developed. But it's pretty good so far. See for yourself. www.energy927fm.com

NBC Tsunami Aid: A Concert Of Hope

Okay, this is not directly related to the radio at all, but this is very important! Tonight on NBC, and several of its affiliates, a benefit concert will be airing at 8pm (PST).

Perfomances by Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Sarah McLachlan, Nelly, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Kenny Chesney, and many more (click this link for more information) are scheduled. Do what you can to help the victims of the tsunami.

What's new

Not much has changed in terms of dance radio recently. Energy 92.7 has added a couple new songs to their regular airplay (just 2). The original mix of Kylie Minogue's "I Believe In You" and Ciara Featuring Missy Elliot "1, 2 Step [Remix]" have been the first official adds of the New Year. Both tracks have been aired during the mixshows over the past few weeks. Hopefully, this will be the first of many adds during this new year. There are many songs that Energy did not add in 2004. Of course, adding all dance songs that came out in 2004 would be absolutely unrealistic. But a few more adds would have been great.

2005 is a new year, and more will happen in terms of music, and at Energy 92.7. New on-air personalities have been added to the station. A new one will be starting on Monday afternoons, and in the evenings. PD Chris Shebel had been doing the official on-air duties during evenings on Energy during the last few months. He will still be present on Friday evenings for the "Weekend Kick-Off Mix."

Speaking of that mixshow, a good number of new songs have been consistently added during the mixshow. There is a good amount of variety within the mixes. Some new stuff, some older stuff, and some current. Mostly new. It would be nice to hear some more trance songs within the mix in addition to the house music.

And then there's "Cardio Radio." That airs at 12pm Monday through Friday. This mixshow consists of 80's/90's dance songs. It's mostly 80's new wave and freestyle. Songs by New Order, Madonna, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, and other similar artists are staples of the mixshow. There is good variety within this mix. Wild 94.9, KDON 102.5, and Viva 105.7 all run mixshows during the 12 o'clock hour as well. Alice 97.3 runs an all request hour while Live 105 airs a ReWind show during its 11 o'clock hour.

Energy has been packing in the freestyle tracks with the same effect that Wild 94.9 still tries to initiate. "Can You Feel The Beat" by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, "Endless Nights" by Cynthia, "Take It While It's Hot" by Sweet Sensation, "Come Into My Arms" by Judy Torres, "Temptation" by Corinia, "Party Your Body" by Stevie B and "Silent Morning" by Noel are just some of the freestyle songs heard during the "Cardio Mix". If I didn't mention which station was playing those songs, the first station that would come to mind would be Wild or KDON as they are known for playing the freestyle.

House Nation Year-End Top 50

Wild 94.9's "House Nation" jumped on the bandwagon and did a year-end countdown as well. It had previously aired on December 31 from 1-5am, and was repeated again last night. Instead of featuring the previous year's hit songs, they played the top 50 dance songs from the last 15 or so years. It was their picks just based on initial reaction when hearing the songs for the first time. The majority of the songs are from previous years. There are a few from 2004, but very few. There were many major songs left out of this list. Even though they chose 50 records, there are many obviously missed tracks. Energy 92.7 Year -End Mix Playlist

As promised, here is a complete listing of all the songs played during the 4 hour Year End Mix. All songs played are actually listed. Remix information was unavailable for many of the songs, but many were played in their Original Mix or Extended Mix. Specific queries about specific songs can be addressed via email.

The majority of the songs played within this special 4 hour mixshow have not been played on Energy 92.7 during the last 92 days it has been on the air. There was a lot of trance and less house.
